THE HEART OF GOVERNANCE: A SEMINAR ON EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE, GLOBAL LEADERSHIP, AND VALUES-BASED LEADERSHIP
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC), through the International Affairs and External Linkages Office (IAELO) and the Extension Office, in partnership with the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) of Manolo Fortich, successfully conducted a two-day leadership development seminar titled “The Heart of Governance” on December 1 and 2, 2025, held at the NBSC Board Room. The seminar focused on Emotional Intelligence, Global Leadership, and Values-Based Leadership, aiming to strengthen leadership competencies by equipping participants with essential skills and insights for effective, ethical, and globally aware governance.
The seminar featured a distinguished panel of speakers who guided participants through the key aspects of leadership. Teresita R. Albert of TRAC Training Consultancy led a session on Emotional Intelligence, highlighting the importance of self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation in building trust, resolving conflicts, and fostering productive relationships. Jee Ann Marie M. Guibone, MA, Focal Person for Global Citizenship Education (GCED), presented on Global Citizenship, emphasizing cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and social responsibility as essential traits for leaders navigating an interconnected world. Revian M. Manhuyod, MAED, #NotAlone Hub Coordinator for Visayas and Mindanao, delivered a session on The Power of Leadership: Understanding Leadership & Values, demonstrating how personal and organizational values influence effective leadership and decision-making. Engr. Federico C. Bañaga Jr., Head of the Global Leadership Center, concluded with Leading with Integrity & Authenticity: The Impact of Misaligned Values, stressing the necessity of aligning actions with values to maintain credibility, trust, and ethical leadership.
Throughout the two-day seminar, participants engaged in reflective exercises, scenario-based workshops, and collaborative discussions that enabled them to assess their leadership styles, enhance emotional and ethical awareness, and strengthen their commitment to values-based and globally oriented leadership practices. The interactive sessions fostered personal growth, critical thinking, and the practical application of leadership principles in academic and community contexts.
“The Heart of Governance” reflects the commitment of NBSC—through its IAELO and Extension Office—and the LYDO of Manolo Fortich to develop leaders equipped with emotional intelligence, global perspectives, and values-driven decision-making. The seminar significantly contributed to preparing participants to serve their communities.
